Big Life Foundation works with local communities in southern Kenya and northern Tanzania, believing that when conservation supports people; people support conservation.
Big Life uses rangers, employed from the local communities, to help address the many environmental and social issues facing local Maasai communities today. It creates conservation-based benefits for people and has become the largest single employer in the area. Local staff conduct monitoring and anti-poaching patrols, which has led to a dramatic decline in poaching since 2010. Monitoring efforts are enhanced with aerial surveys, while tracking dogs are used to hunt down poachers. Farmers and herders are compensated for losses caused by wildlife and education is supported through funds for teacher salaries and student bursaries.

How Tusk works with Our Project Partners
We provide critical funding to enable our project partners to grow and increase their impact on habitat and wildlife, while also enabling, nurturing and supporting collaboration between them, for greater synergy and impact.
We help to increase awareness and wider support for our partners’ efforts, while also sharing important conservation messages, from the vital and varied roles of wildlife rangers, to the benefits of community-driven conservation, both within Africa and internationally.
Big Life Foundation have been a Tusk Partner since 2003.
