Conservation Lower Zambezi (CLZ) works with the Zambian Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) and local communities to protect the wildlife of the Lower Zambezi National Park and surrounding areas.
The area is a key transit route for the transboundary illegal trade and its remoteness makes law enforcement challenging. CLZ provides financial, logistic, and technical support to the DNPW. This includes a specialised 10-person Rapid Deployment Team consisting of DNPW Officers and CLZ Community Scouts, and a tracking and detection canine unit operating within the region and along known illegal wildlife trade transport routes.
Village Scouts conduct further patrols and also support local farmers, promoting chilli farming and elephant-safe grain stores to protect crops from elephants and hippos. CLZ’s education programme reaches thousands of children a year through on-site courses, school conservation clubs and teacher training.

How Tusk works with Our Project Partners
We provide critical funding to enable our project partners to grow and increase their impact on habitat and wildlife, while also enabling, nurturing and supporting collaboration between them, for greater synergy and impact.
We help to increase awareness and wider support for our partners’ efforts, while also sharing important conservation messages, from the vital and varied roles of wildlife rangers, to the benefits of community-driven conservation, both within Africa and internationally.
Conservation Lower Zambezi has been a Tusk partner since 2012.
