Association pour la protection des Tortues Marines de Maroc (ATOMM) was created in 2008 and is dedicated to sea turtle conservation and research in Morocco.
Central to their work has been the transfer of knowledge and experience to empower the local fishermen, to prevent turtles getting tangled in fishing gear and dying. ATOMM are now expanding their efforts to promote the involvement of local women, particularly the wives of fishermen and women involved in fishing and diving in marine conservation.
A women’s group is being trained to lead beach clean-ups, underwater and ocean surface clean-ups, and to educate their communities about plastic pollution and responsible disposal of fishing gear. The women also participate in marine turtle data collection, contributing to the understanding of turtle populations and aiding conservation efforts.
Through the women and the involvement of their children in these activities, ATOMM hope to create a culture of marine conservation in the local fishing community, as well as to expand the women’s group nationally.

How Tusk works with Our Project Partners
We provide critical funding to enable our project partners to grow and increase their impact on habitat and wildlife, while also enabling, nurturing and supporting collaboration between them, for greater synergy and impact.
We help to increase awareness and wider support for our partners’ efforts, while also sharing important conservation messages, from the vital and varied roles of wildlife rangers, to the benefits of community-driven conservation, both within Africa and internationally.
ATOMM has been a Tusk partner since 2025.
