The Lamu Marine Conservation Trust (LAMCOT) off the Kenyan coast have been Tusk project partners since 2000.

Five species of Marine Turtle come to land on African beaches to lay their eggs. Here green turtle nestlings make their first steps towards the ocean, where they are particuarly vulnerable until they reach the water.

Plastic pollution is a big problem off the coast of Kenya, with each high tide bringing in a new wave of waste from the Indian Ocean. Turtles often mistake plastic bags for jellyfish and ingest them, which usually proves fatal.

LAMCOT collect an average of 7 tonnes of plastics every year, and encourage safe disposal, reducing the threats in the water, and resulting in clean turtle nesting beaches.

In Madagascar, Tusk supports Community Centred Conservation (C3) and in particular their Junior Ecoguards, who spread the message about the impacts of overharvesting and inappropriate fishing techniques.

Off the coast of Zanzibar, Tusk's supports Wild Impact's (Oceans without Borders) restoration and community-based conservation of the coral reefs associated with Mnemba Island.

The degradation of the Mnemba House Reef is being addressed through the development of an artificial coral reef.

At the end of 2024, Tusk extended its support to Morocco for the first time, partnering with "Association pour la protection des Tortues Marines de Maroc (ATOMM)" whose project is bringing women and children into marine conservation efforts.
