Madagasikara Voakajy promotes the conservation and sustainable use of Madagascar’s ecosystems, habitats and species by tackling the greatest threats to the island’s unique biodiversity.
The organisation does this through conservation science and community participation, with projects protecting species that range from chameleons and frogs, to bats and baobabs. Their work is focussed on four key aspects: governance, species monitoring, habitat restoration and valuing natural resources. They have a student training programme and use community engagement at local sites to further educate on the importance of conservation.
Through collaboration with local communities, the government and other stakeholders, their work has helped establish seven protected areas and bring the golden mantella frog back from the brink of extinction, being reclassified from “Critically Endangered” to “Endangered”.
How Tusk works with Our Project Partners
We provide critical funding to enable our project partners to grow and increase their impact on habitat and wildlife, while also enabling, nurturing and supporting collaboration between them, for greater synergy and impact.
We help to increase awareness and wider support for our partners’ efforts, while also sharing important conservation messages, from the vital and varied roles of wildlife rangers, to the benefits of community-driven conservation, both within Africa and internationally.
Madagasikara Voakajy has been a Tusk partner since 2023.
