Lilongwe Wildlife Trust (LWT) helps to protect Malawi’s wildlife by combating wildlife crime and empowering guardians of the wild. The Trust currently operates four programmes: saving wildlife, conservation justice, educating communities and campaigning for change.
The Wildlife Centre in the heart of the country’s capital city is the hub for both wildlife rescue and education. It welcomes tens of thousands of visitors per year, many of whom are schoolchildren participating in the environmental education programme, which is linked to the national curriculum. Education outreach also takes the programme to schools in major cities and around protected areas, while LWT’s broader advocacy raises public awareness of conservation issues, in particular wildlife crime, and supports government agencies in wildlife investigations and prosecutions.

How Tusk works with Our Project Partners
We provide critical funding to enable our project partners to grow and increase their impact on habitat and wildlife, while also enabling, nurturing and supporting collaboration between them, for greater synergy and impact.
We help to increase awareness and wider support for our partners’ efforts, while also sharing important conservation messages, from the vital and varied roles of wildlife rangers, to the benefits of community-driven conservation, both within Africa and internationally.
Lilongwe Wildlife Trust has been a Tusk partner since 2012.
