Southern African Wildlife College (SAWC) was established in 1996 to give natural resource managers at all levels the motivation and skills they need to become partners in saving the continent’s natural heritage.
SAWC has over 23,500 alumni from 60 countries around the world. All training comprises theory as well as practical skills and has been developed in close collaboration with conservation agencies.
Training options include Certificate Courses at a higher education and further education level as well as Skills Development Programmes, Learnerships and Short Courses. These fall under the general topics of Wildlife Area Management, Field Ranger Training (they have trained over 15,500 rangers), Sustainable Use and Field Guiding, and Community and Youth Development, with all courses covering a range of relevant subjects.

How Tusk works with Our Project Partners
We provide critical funding to enable our project partners to grow and increase their impact on habitat and wildlife, while also enabling, nurturing and supporting collaboration between them, for greater synergy and impact.
We help to increase awareness and wider support for our partners’ efforts, while also sharing important conservation messages, from the vital and varied roles of wildlife rangers, to the benefits of community-driven conservation, both within Africa and internationally.
Southern African Wildlife College has been a Tusk partner since 2009.
