Chimpanzee Conservation Center (CCC) is a rescue and rehabilitation site for orphaned chimpanzees.
A tragic by-product of the enforcement of wildlife laws, most orphaned chimpanzees have had their mothers killed for bushmeat, with infants often illegally traded as pets. CCC provides lifetime care for these animals or, wherever possible, releases them into the Upper Niger National Park to supplement the existing population.
The centre can hold over 60 chimpanzees at any one time and the rehabilitation process takes at least 10 years. The released chimpanzees are monitored regularly, and released females from the centre have given birth to a total of 16 offspring in the wild since 2008 with a survival rate that mirrors those born to wild mothers. In addition, CCC conducts awareness programmes with local communities around the park and across the country.

How Tusk works with Our Project Partners
We provide critical funding to enable our project partners to grow and increase their impact on habitat and wildlife, while also enabling, nurturing and supporting collaboration between them, for greater synergy and impact.
We help to increase awareness and wider support for our partners’ efforts, while also sharing important conservation messages, from the vital and varied roles of wildlife rangers, to the benefits of community-driven conservation, both within Africa and internationally.
Chimpanzee Conservation Center has been a Tusk partner since 2012.
