C3 Madagascar is an international network of grassroots marine conservation initiatives.
In Madagascar, a number of fishing techniques damage the fragile reef ecosystem and impact threatened species like dugong and sea turtles. Through C3, Madagascan communities receive development support in exchange for supporting the management of the Nosy Hara Marine Park and adhering to its regulations. These include restrictions on harvesting of mangroves, fishing in no-take zones, and use of mosquito nets which also catch juvenile fish.
Additionally, C3 trains hundreds of Junior Ecoguards, who conduct field trips and classroom activities. By targeting young people, C3 spreads conservation messages to wider communities and ensures an awareness of environmental issues among the next generation.
How Tusk works with Our Project Partners
We provide critical funding to enable our project partners to grow and increase their impact on habitat and wildlife, while also enabling, nurturing and supporting collaboration between them, for greater synergy and impact.
We help to increase awareness and wider support for our partners’ efforts, while also sharing important conservation messages, from the vital and varied roles of wildlife rangers, to the benefits of community-driven conservation, both within Africa and internationally.
C3 Madagascar has been a Tusk partner since 2012.
