The Pangolin Project is a non-profit organisation based in Kenya, dedicated to pangolin conservation, research and protection.
Driven by an insatiable demand from the Far East for their scales in alternative medicine and meat as a delicacy, the illicit trade of pangolin has soared. Currently all eight species of pangolin are at risk of extinction, with African pangolins particularly so.
Pangolin poaching is only identified if informants detect and report information of a sale, which often happens in towns far away from the pangolins’ habitat. While the Pangolin Project continues to work to increase the likelihood of interception and protect pangolins in situ, trade pattern shifts make it increasingly difficult. The Pangolin Project trains ranger teams and also conducts research, builds community awareness and develops conservation plans.

How Tusk works with Our Project Partners
We provide critical funding to enable our project partners to grow and increase their impact on habitat and wildlife, while also enabling, nurturing and supporting collaboration between them, for greater synergy and impact.
We help to increase awareness and wider support for our partners’ efforts, while also sharing important conservation messages, from the vital and varied roles of wildlife rangers, to the benefits of community-driven conservation, both within Africa and internationally.
The Pangolin Project has been a Tusk partner since 2020.
