Maputo National Park in Mozambique enables linkages between a mosaic of marine, coastal and inland components with important conservation value and potential for high-value tourism.
Since 2002 the development of Maputo National Park has been supported by Peace Parks, and since 2010 they have been supporting the governments of Mozambique and South Africa with a wildlife translocation programme, which has seen more than 4,600 animals translocated into the park, including eight species that had become locally extinct. However, the increase in animal numbers and improvement of roads has increased the threat of wildlife crime. In the efforts to mitigate this, ranger forces have been deployed, with helicopters for rapid response.
Peace Parks also works to provide sustainable economic development for the communities around the Maputo National Park, alongside commercial development and nature-based tourism.

How Tusk works with Our Project Partners
We provide critical funding to enable our project partners to grow and increase their impact on habitat and wildlife, while also enabling, nurturing and supporting collaboration between them, for greater synergy and impact.
We help to increase awareness and wider support for our partners’ efforts, while also sharing important conservation messages, from the vital and varied roles of wildlife rangers, to the benefits of community-driven conservation, both within Africa and internationally.
Maputo National Park has been a Tusk partner since 2023.
