Honeyguide works to secure protection for elephants, their habitat and migratory routes through sustainable community conservation in the Makame Wildlife Management Area, within Tanzania’s Tarangire ecosystem.
Honeyguide operates a wide range of initiatives across six project sites covering nearly two million acres of key wildlife habitat in northern Tanzania. Makame is a prime grazing area for both livestock and wildlife, as well as a key habitat for elephants, African wild dog and other mammals.
Honeyguide runs programmes which help combat poaching and threats of habitat loss, while strengthening community-owned conservation areas. There is a strong team of tracker dogs, which has reduced the risk of poachers entering the national park and plays a crucial role in the success of Honeyguide’s operations.

How Tusk works with Our Project Partners
We provide critical funding to enable our project partners to grow and increase their impact on habitat and wildlife, while also enabling, nurturing and supporting collaboration between them, for greater synergy and impact.
We help to increase awareness and wider support for our partners’ efforts, while also sharing important conservation messages, from the vital and varied roles of wildlife rangers, to the benefits of community-driven conservation, both within Africa and internationally.
Honeyguide Foundation has been a Tusk partner since 2020.
