Game Rangers International has been operating in Zambia’s Southern Kafue Region since 2008, using a comprehensive approach that combines wildlife rescue, resource protection and community outreach, to conserve wildlife and wild spaces.
Following Neddy Mulimo’s Tusk Wildlife Ranger Award in 2022, funding has been provided to help provide protective clothing, kit and other equipment for 152 rangers and 55 GRI and Department of National Parks support staff operating in Game Management Areas located in the Eastern Kafue landscape. Key equipment procured includes camping gear and weather-appropriate clothing, crucial for effective patrolling, enhancing performance for the whole team. Rangers play a vital role in monitoring the region, apprehending poachers, and facilitating community engagement in wildlife management strategies. As well as preventing illegal encroachment on conservation zones, the rangers also help to mitigate human-wildlife conflict (HWC) affecting local communities, such as crop damage and livestock predation. Data collected on HWC incidents informs mitigation strategies and strengthens conservation efforts, and in the long run results in improved social economic opportunities and gains for the communities living in the Game Management areas.

How Tusk works with Our Project Partners
We provide critical funding to enable our project partners to grow and increase their impact on habitat and wildlife, while also enabling, nurturing and supporting collaboration between them, for greater synergy and impact.
We help to increase awareness and wider support for our partners’ efforts, while also sharing important conservation messages, from the vital and varied roles of wildlife rangers, to the benefits of community-driven conservation, both within Africa and internationally.
Game Rangers International has been a Tusk partner since 2022.
